The Board Decision Framework

The DIRECT Method for Traceable, Defensible and Deliverable Board Decisions

Better Decisions, Better Outcomes

Your board does not have a technology problem. It has a decision problem.

Every year, boards approve transformation programmes, sign off AI initiatives and back strategic bets worth millions, often without a repeatable process for how the decision was made. When it goes wrong, the post-mortem rarely blames the technology. It blames the governance.

The Board Decision Framework gives directors, non-executive directors and senior leaders in regulated industries a practical, six step method for making and defending high stakes decisions under pressure. It is built from thirty years in UK financial services, including boardroom roles, across banking, asset management and insurance.

The DIRECT method

  1. Define the Decision
  2. Identify Outcomes
  3. Review Options
  4. Evaluate Risk
  5. Confirm Accountability
  6. Trigger Points

Inside the book

  • DIRECT applied to realistic boardroom scenarios across banking, asset management and insurance.
  • Why AI and automation are the sharpest test yet for board decision making, and what regulators are already watching for.
  • The decision traps that catch even experienced boards: sunk cost, anchoring, groupthink and the loudest voice in the room.
  • A Board Decision Scorecard, a sample board agenda and more than 40 ready-to-use questions for your next meeting.

Who it is for

Non-executive directors, board chairs, chief risk officers, chief operating officers, general counsel, heads of compliance and anyone leading digital or AI transformation.

AI: A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Artificial Intelligence

Is AI a wolf in sheep's clothing? Sometimes. And that is exactly the problem.

AI: A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing sets out the evidence on both sides of artificial intelligence, the good, the bad and the ugly, without the hype and without the scaremongering. Every example is sourced.

Inside the book

  • The good: what AI is already doing in health, science, the planet and the lives of disabled people.
  • The bad: what it is doing to work, families, young minds, organisations, the truth and the decisions governments make about us.
  • The ugly: what the people building it admit they do not know, and what happens when it falls into the wrong hands.
  • The hidden bill: the energy, the water and the people behind the machine.
  • Five questions to ask of any AI, whether it is in your bank, your hospital, your child's school or your workplace.

Who it is for

Anyone who uses AI, is affected by it, or has to decide whether to trust it: business leaders, board members, parents, professionals and curious readers alike.

The book is supported by Latest News: the good, the bad and the ugly of AI, a regular briefing from Aztec AI Group.
